Public Service Announcement: The Battle of Naturals vs. Ignorance

Okay I am supposed to be working on my post for the anniversary of Aaliyah and the King of Pop, Michael Jackson; however, I had to put that on hold because of a post a woman put on a website. Usually I summarize the article for the readers, but this is something that you must read first than read what I am going to say about it. Ready? Set? Go.

Okay have you finished reading it? Good

Okay I just want to start off by saying, what in the name of everything that is holy? Why would the salon stylist do that? I mean that’s just not only ignorant, but just plain rude, actually its beyond rude. I am natural and I am coming up on a year since I decided to do it, first transitioning, and its been two months since I chopped off all the relaxed ends and went from there. I’m not going to get into my whole natural experience because I will dedicate a post to that later.

I cannot imagine what that lady must have been going through, to go natural is not a spur of the moment situation it is hard and can take a while. So for that woman, that disrespectful creature, to do that leaves me speechless. I could not imagine if that was my hair, in fact I won’t even attempt to imagine because not only would that stylist get a slap from me so hard, she would be able to recall her ancestors, I would own that shop by the end of the day. What stands out to me is not the fact that the lady that witnessed this stayed and still gave them business, but the fact that all the stylist knew what “Tiffany” did and thought it was okay.

One of them even said that the woman should be happy to have a relaxer rather than wearing the hair that God gave her. *SMH* I mean wow that is a mentality that I wouldn’t wish on my worse enemy and that’s a lot of people. I want you guys to look at the comments because they express my thoughts and one user was kind enough to show a picture of what the lady may have used and went into detail and explained it. This is just harsh on many levels; they basically made that lady start from scratch just because of their own stupidity and inability to embrace their hair.

Man wow, all I can say is that going natural or being natural is not a sudden trend and nor is it for fashion, although soon it might be when white people want it too and then it will be called slave hair; it is a truth. Again I will go deeper into what I mean in a later post but basically it is a journey about bring true to oneself and there are those that do not care for it nor do they care for others that are on it. I do really feel as though there is a coup being funded to overthrow black woman and men going natural, and the coup is mostly composed of people who look like us or share our hair type, but not our mindset

As I read on through the comments this has happened to a lot of people and putting straightener chemicals in natural hair under the disguise of it being a special conditioner is being done in some or a lot of African-American and Dominican hair salons. So my natural sisters and brothers I need you to be careful about going to salons and being even more careful about who touches your hair. Be vigilant and be strong.

*Still thinking about post* Oh and if anyone does this to you, you have the American guran-dangon-tee to not only make them wish they were never born, but to sue them as well. It’s America so use your rights, before they are taken away… even more.

Positive Vibrations Wachira

Okay so I titled this positive vibrations because this is some positive news; as much as I can do post on the ills I can definitely do them on positive things. So while on a site called Lipstickalley.com I found an article; read it here. It is about a 16-year-old Kenyan girl named Shiro Keziah Wachira scoring the highest marks in an English Examination in the world! I don’t think you guys hear me, IN THE WORLD. The exam, Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE), is taken all over the world and she beat more than 420,000 students around the world.

I mean not only is Ms. Wachira gorgeous, but she definitely have the brains as well. This news was lovely for me to come across and I am excited for Ms. Wachira, she is a shining example of who little girls should look up to and what women are made of. I want to wish her a huge congratulation and the best in all her future endeavors. I want to express the significance of this, she didn’t just rank high in her region, she didn’t just rank high in her district, she didn’t just rank high in her country, she didn’t just rank high in her continent, she ranked high in the WORLD! Wow talk about amazing.

The two links give personal background in Ms. Wachira’s life and what people who know her have to say about her; she has a wonderful command of the English language, heck I wonder if she can teach me, joking…. not. I hope this article inspire not just kids, but adults as well, the power of education is not only serious but important. Reading is fundamental, it helps to shape vocabulary as well as build it and not many youths are reading a lot or looking at it as fun, many regard it as a punishment. So again books are power and although not everything written is gospel, reading does open doors.

So again, Congratulations to Ms. Wachira and I continue to wish her well in her studies and anything in life that she pursues because that girl is on a path to greatness, good job girl!

Well Hey there Canada… I mean Britain

Alright so there has been a lot of focus on the “riot” that is taking place in Britain over the death of an innocent youth. I didn’t find out about the “riot” until going on a blog, but it seems that the focus was more on the blacks in the “riot” than the whites. Now in a situation such as that with about 80% of whites, its interesting that a whole bunch of blacks were blamed, when there were Asians in it as well. Moving on, I would like to summarize what happened: Blacks were blamed as the source and trouble of the riot and as the main starters of it.

I’m sure you guys are wondering why I put riot in quotation marks and that’s because what took place in Britain wasn’t a riot it was a protest at least by my standards.

Now as I’m typing this, I’m giggling, not over the death of an innocent person, but over the fact that blacks are being blamed for it. Now I’m going to reach into the past and see that when blacks protest there isn’t any stealing tvs, electronics, or the smashing of businesses. I like how everyone is using the riot as some call for Martial Law and some people using this as an example of Blacks Gone Wild (BGW). A few months ago wasn’t there a serious disturbing of the peace in Canada; now that is what you call a riot. Wasn’t there a bunch of pale-faced youths terrorizing businesses and racking up millions or billions of dollars in damages, setting cars, that did not belong to them, on fire and fighting the police. Now if you are still with me, this all happened over Canada losing in the Stanley World Cup,think of it as the Superbowl of hockey, talk about maple syrup gone mad. Yet, I don’t remember the call for Martial Law, people calling them heathens, or any type of negative attention for the destruction that they caused. In fact, people were actually smitten with the couple that appeared to be making out in the street in the middle of all the chaos; the people were even interviewed.

Also Canada’s riot was horrible in all forms of horrible, I wonder how those businesses were able to fix everything and if they have awesome insurance cause maple syrup won’t help them. I do not call what happened in Britain a riot, to me a riot is senseless, like Canada’s riot; however, the people in Britain were standing up against an injustice, the fact that police shot and killed an innocent man and then tried to cover it up. The issue presented was not a class issue as some would love to believe, the root of it was racism. There are dozens of stories about police brutality against people of color in Britain and here I though Britain was full of progressive people, notice the sarcasm?

Anyway it seems America and its former(present) oppressor are very much alike in its treatment of POCs. The media which is the governments and politicians best friends did everything in their power to make these people seem like villains, animals and crazy uncivilized people and for those that trust the media, it worked, but for those that question the media we saw straight through that BS. Imagine the surprise of the media when they saw wealthy white kids among the “rioters”. Also it seems like PM of Britain is similar to Bush in the fact that they tend to be anywhere but in their office especially during important events, smh.

Another problem was with some British politicians blaming blacks for the “gangster” culture that made some of those whites act so barbaric *pause and laughs*. Really? Honestly? Then I guess Greece and Canada are super-duper “gangsters” cause their riots were no joke and I didn’t see not one black person either, did you? I laugh at what people call gangster, a gangster to me is not the guy that shot some people, although that is a cause for concern, but the ones that wear the suits and ties and make laws that rape thousands of common people out of their money, while cutting funds for programs that benefit them; am I referring to the GOP or all of Congress? I leave that for you to decide. But yeah those people are gangster, they are robbing people blind, in their face, and the media reports it, that my friends is on a level not even Al Capone could reach and the best/sad part is they will never go to jail cause its legal.

Now back to the issue, the joke about gangster culture isn’t a joke its a scapegoat and sorry but POCs are not wearing the dunce cap for that crap, the British government and its corrupt police officers are to blame for what happened not those people who they deem trouble makers; had the government ensured true equality than they wouldn’t be going through this. Also,  you would think that with all the Big Brother surveillance (cameras) around Britain they would have caught on to what was happening a lot earlier. {I had to do it, sorry}

So as a final thought on this situation, the British people will out of fear allow more government surveillance along with Martial Law and end up just like 1984 and when they get to that point they will still blame Black people, smh you just can’t win with these people. Oh and this is an awesome clip that I got from a blog: http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_embedded&v=biJgILxGK0o

I love the way that old man corrected her, muhahahahah!
