Hero: Maleik Carr

Maleik Carr and his little sister were on their way to school when the  two unleashed dogs escaped through a hole in a neighbor’s chain-link  fence and attacked.

Maleik Carr was mauled by two pitbulls when he tried to save his sister on Monday.

A young boy’s legs are marred with stitches days after he fought off two ferocious pitbulls that attacked his 5-year-old sister on the siblings’ way to school.

Maleik and Jalia Carr were walking to the bus stop  Monday morning from their home in Dublin, Ga., when the unleashed dogs  escaped through a gaping hole in a neighbor’s chain-link fence.

“They started snapping at Jalia,” Maleik, 11, told WMAZ-TV.

“So I ran over there and started kicking them away from her, and they bit me. And I told Jalia to run.”

As  his sister fled, Maleik grabbed a nearby plastic chair and tried to  beat the dogs off. He freed himself for long enough to jump over the  fence and scramble home — covered in bloody wounds and bite marks.

His older sister took him to the hospital.

Maleik Carr’s sister, Jalia.

It  hurt me to my soul when I saw those cuts,” father Willie Carr told the  station. “It was very hard not crying in front of him because he was  already so strong, and I wanted him to continue being strong.”

Maleik’s mother is furious the dogs were unleashed.

“I  was hurt, scared, and after all was said and done, angry,” Sherry Carr  said. “Because more care wasn’t taken to make sure these dogs didn’t  hurt anyone.”

Both parents are proud their son was so quick to save his sister.

“They  will react to protect each other at all costs,” Sherry Carr told  WMAZ-TV. “It makes me so proud. It makes me so proud to have this hero  in my house.”

The dogs have been secured and are in confinement,  Laurens County Animal Control director Don Bryant told the Daily News.  Charges against the owners are pending.
