The search for a missing man has turned into a criminal investigation.
Charleston police received information about missing man, Kareem Hunter, that led them to an apartment on 83rd Street in Marmet on Wednesday.
Once at the apartment, police said, they found evidence prompting them to obtain a search warrant and rope off the area as a crime scene. Charleston detectives, the Kanawha County Sheriff’s Office and prosecutors were all on scene investigating.
Hunter, 28, of Charleston disappeared Sept. 23. That night, police were called to the apartment in Marmet for a disturbance.
Neighbor Lyndi Sanders said she called Marmet police after she said a boy ran behind their home, asking to use their phone.
“That night that boy came over here in a panicky state, and I thought something wasn’t right about it and I called the cops,” Sanders said.
Sanders said a Marmet police officer responded, spoke to a couple at the end of the street and then left.
Investigators aren’t saying what they found inside the apartment. Eyewitness News will update this story as more information becomes available.
