R.I.P. Afeni Shakur

May her soul rest in peace!

From the New York Times:

Afeni Shakur, a civil rights activist and former Black Panther whose tumultuous but close relationship with her son, the rapper Tupac Shakur, was the inspiration for much of his work, died on Monday in the San Francisco Bay Area. She was 69.

The sheriff’s office in Marin County, Calif., confirmed the death and said the coroner’s office would seek to determine the cause.

Ms. Shakur was pronounced dead around 10:30 p.m., about an hour after deputies responded to reports of a cardiac arrest at her home in Sausalito and took her to a hospital, the sheriff’s office said on Twitter.

Three University Alba students attacked by Whites

This story is just sad all around. Three young women beaten by white men and white women and no one helped them. This took place on a bus and people were more obsessed with recording the beating and telling them to shut up. I am beyond angry like what the heck? I am tired of this. The police officers did not care, the school did not care until the story got social media traction. My anger stems from the fact that no one helped these black women and these women were attacked for their race and gender.

No one sends their children to a school anywhere and expects to hear about them being assaulted. No one sends their child to school and think they are far from safe. Universities already do not have a good statistic on the violent and sexual assaults that take place on their campuses, they put the schools image ahead of the safety of the students who make them money. The Sunny Alba sent out some ridiculous lets get together letter out with some political correct garbage. I am thoroughly annoyed with all of this and people think the younger generation is somehow better, this proves they are not. There are still racist whites who find pleasure in this type of savage behavior, attacking black women, black girls, and recording it and probably laugh about it. The investigation should not even take long, they should be found, round up, and hauled off to jail. The white girls involved as well, feminist sisters my behind, also need to be round up and hauled of to jail. Everyone needs to be jailed, terminated, and have their life ruined.

Boko Haram Attack kills 86 People

I have my own theories on Boko Haram, but facts remain: they are terrorizing Nigerian people. I don’t understand how they are so well weaponized or what rock they crawled out from under, but enough is enough. They need to be dealt with. In 2015, alone, Nigeria was attacked more than nine times by terrorist groups. Does Nigeria has some type of religious tension between Christians and Muslims? Yes but this is not what it used to be. These people, claiming Islam, are disrupting people’s way of life, killing people, and is a threat to Nigeria, so they need to be dealt with. This has nothing to do with religion, but power, greed, and corruption.

I am sick of hearing about their attacks and hearing what is not said: the Nigerian government is clueless on how to defeat them or deal with them. Nigeria needs to send a clear and I do mean clear message you cannot wreck havoc on Nigerian lives and live to do it again and again and again; forget that you got one time, only, then after that we bussin through the door blasting. May the soul of the dead rest in peace especially the children. These people are trying to cut off the future generation of Nigeria and that can’t be accepted. The article below just annoys me and makes me sick. I hope the injured can recover. You can read the article here: Survivor tells of Boko Haram attack killing 86 people including children

Violence Against Women

I know I have made it clear that I am very much pro-women,pro-girls, and pro everything related to women. My main passion are African and Black women from all walks of life, but women in general matter to me a lot. Even though there are so many negative messages about women and being a woman, the truth is rarely told. Without women what would this world be? Seriously picture a world without women, such a depressing thought. Yet, the world acts as though it can continue without us.

I have read a tumblr page dedicated to the violence women have faced, personal and news stories, when they reject advances, say no, break up with or attempt to leave their abusers, or exert their right to defend themselves and their personal space. I have never understood this and yet even I have internalized the message that you gotta sooth a mans ego and be polite when telling him you don’t want him. It angers me when I find myself doing it because dudes have rarely been polite about turning down women. Yet, the fear of being harmed, cursed out, physically abused immediately enters our minds. The world is quick to tell us how to act, dress, walk and so on in order to not be treated like trash rather then tell men to not act like trash. For those who will look at this as male bashing, believe me you are not my intended audience.

I am upset and frustrated, and simply enraged at the stories I have read. How the fuck are people raising their children? Like you have husbands killing their own children to get back at their wives for divorcing them or leaving them; you have have women who are being shot for refusing to talk to men out on the street, because everyone is so full of Christ love; you have teens being raped and abused by their boyfriends, you have wives being raped and abused by their husbands. I am just so done with this shit. I am sick of it. I am sick of the misogny and the pricks and punks who thing women owe them anything. I don’t care of nice of a man you think you are, if you can’t take a woman telling you no in any circumstance you need to re-evaluate yourself and your so called “niceness.” From young these boys need to understand you are not entitled to a woman’s body, her attention, her time, her heart, or anything. When you bring up this fact guys quickly say, “But I can’t compliment her and tell her she looking good? I mean you took all that time to get dressed and I want to let her know her effort is appreciated.” Look LoveJones we can do without your comment. We dress for ourselves not your approval, you know how many guys I have seen who look good in dress and appearance and I don’t think to verbally compliment them and I am sure they are not dying since I didn’t. You don’t need to compliment a woman, trust your compliment is everlasting bread and water, she won’t die from a lack of it. For the women who do appreciate a compliment they will tell you that there is a line that should not be crossed. You don’t need to tell her, “you look so beautiful,” then follow up with, “You gotta man? What your man won’t let you have friends?” That is beyond a compliment that is on some (insert any race)peoplemeet.com type of stuff. These stories really hurt me because it shows that violence against woman happens at any age, violence against young girls happen at any age.

Because we never see the first sign or ignore the signs of psychotic men I want to give a tip to every young girl and woman: If a boy or man ever loses his cool on you for exercising your right to dump him, say no, or defend yourself; he is a danger to you. If a man ever tells you he will kill himself, you, your children, your family, or your friends if you leave him, dump him, or what have you; that is a man that will kill you.

The Root: “9-Year-Old Va. Girl Collects Dolls for Homeless Girls Her Age”

I am so happy to post another article from The Root about another child making a difference. This little one is going to be a force to be reckoned with, with her big heart. Nine-years-old Gianni Graham from Norfolk, Va, is collecting Barbie dolls to give to young girls in homeless shelters around her area. The young girl decided to do this after Christmas. “I wanted to inspire them and give encouragement,” she said.

Graham’s goal is to collect a 1,000 dolls to give to 1,000 little girls like her. When she first started out she had five dolls, two of which she had received for Christmas. Since her story has picked up, she has received 500 dolls, but her goal hasn’t been reached just yet. I am just so proud of her and all the kids like her truly making a difference. The future looks brighter and brighter with kids like this setting a foundation of giving and caring. You can read the article in the link provided. You can also head on over to Graham’s site to donate dolls, 1kbarbiesfor1kgirls.

Nok sculpture of a woman Nok sculpture of a woman

Have you ever looked at sculptures of women from the Nok civilization? Then you have probably noticed that Nok women wore their hair braided similar to the Fulani women of today, in beautiful goddess braids, and amazing styles. Ever looked at images of Queen Nzingha? She wore her hair in Afro, fully out.

What about the great Amanishakheto of Nubia, well, hieroglyphs at Meroë, show her sporting a gorgeous ‘Fro. And the fierce amazons of King Behanzin wore either braids, or shaved their heads, or sported afros. Today the tradition persists: the Himba women of Namibia and Angola wear dreadlocks decorated with red ochre, while Maasai women shave their heads and Maasai men sport dreadlocks. For their wedding, the Wodaabe women wear amazing braids decorated with cauris, and jewelry. In our culture, there…
